Catching is Sometimes Hard to Do

Well today was the first day that Nestle, aka Sonny, was "officially mine". Since I was scheduled for work later that day, I decided that it was the perfect day to head out and get him back in shape. Plus, this crazy Ohio weather decided to act normal . So I got to the barn, and trekked down to the pasture where he was at. There were five other horses with him. Since he is the newer one there, he is on the bottom of the pecking order. The dominate gelding, a chestnut with a large blaze, bullies him whenever he comes near the established herd.
So in comes me to this tense horsey situation. All I want to do is get Sonny and get out of there. The other geldings, being friendly, all walk up to me when I call out to them. Even Sonny perks his ears up. I slowly make my way over to him talking to him as I go. As soon as I get close enough to him, he trots away from me. This is quite peculiar in his behavior. I have known him for awhile and he never ran from me. Well to make a long story short, every time I try to catch him, he trots away from me. I even brought out treats for him. This went on for a good half an hour. Me getting close to him, touching him and him flying away. The chestnut gelding didn't help matters either, seeing that whenever Sonny got to close, he would bite, kick or chase him to get him away.
You have to love horses though for their silliness. I have some big plans for Sonny. If only I can catch him. :) I have a nice juicy apple waiting for him!

Sonny's "friend" that wouldn't stop pestering him.

The established herd.
