Am I?

So we have a wonderful group at college called Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA). Many colleges and even some high schools have this group. its a great place to fellowship with other believers and learn about God. With my hectic schedule of school, I have been somewhat lazy when it comes to devos and prayer. Last night we began with an exercise seeing exactly what we do with our time over the span of one week. We figured out that a week included close to 168 hours. Of those hours, we as college students discovered that we only spent 4 hours of God time. 4 hours! We were spending around 56 hours just sleeping! How is that possible? How could we as Christians be spending so little time with our Father God, the Author and Giver of Life? I sat there and thought about how I used my time. Well most of it was used to study, eat and sleep. But where was the prayer? The spending time in the Word? The time reaching out to nonbelievers? Why was I using my time so selfishly?
Then I reminded of a fact that I have known for some time, but just forgot: We can give God our time in all that we do! Why should we have to "give" a certain number of hours of the day to Him? Every moment of everyday should be spent glorifying our Father.  I found several verses that speak about this:
  • I Thessalonians 5: 17 "Pray without ceasing."
  • Deuteronomy 6:5-9 "Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates."
  • Colossians 3:17 "And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him."
  • I Corinthians 10:31 "So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all to the glory of God."
These passages reminded me that I need to glorify Him always, not just during church or when I am with my Christian friends. So I wrote down some questions as I reflected on my life:

  • Am I living my life the way God would want me to?
  • Am I glorifying Him?
  • Am I showing the world that I am different because of Him?
  • Am I doing everything in my ability for Him?
  • Am I doing EVERYTHING for Him?
  • Am I serving Him with my whole life?
Don't turn off the switch. Live your whole life for God. Don't become complacent. While walking in between classes, I began praying. It felt GREAT! I urge you to pray whenever you get the chance. Glorify Him whether you are sleeping or at a musical.

In Christ,

Monty
